Information Visualization and Windows Live<br />

Abstract—In order to solve our country existing agricultural<br />

information system defects: such as function sole, interactive<br />

poor, difficult for users to operation, as well as the<br />

information resources is sole and redundant. The paper has<br />

developed an so-called electron-agriculture system using<br />

information visualization technology, electronic geography<br />

information technology, Visual C#.NET, Silverlight, and<br />

SQL Server. The design simplifies the user operation,<br />

friendly human-machine interface and involved in<br />

interaction.<br />

A. System function<br />

The system mainly has four modules. As shown in<br />

Fig.1.<br />

I. INTRODUCTION<br />

Taking into account the main user is farmers, and the<br />

farmers do not well in using complicated PC and surfing<br />

the Internet, while the traditional systems had not<br />

considered this problem, leading to the farmer have not<br />

enough enthusiasm to participate in countryside<br />

informatization. So the design of the Electron-agriculture<br />

system based on Windows Live platform and information<br />

visualization mainly consideration the man-machine<br />

interface functions, and the business function of<br />

traditional system operation is replaced by virtual earth<br />

and google earth to come true. By using the technology of<br />

information visualizing users use simple 、intuitive and<br />

other easy operate ways, such as using mouse to click, to<br />

use this system. User doesn’t need to have the<br />

professional knowledge of geographic information, can<br />

be surfing Internet to view agriculture informations, such<br />

as space information, graphics and pictures, and can use<br />

the information to help users to analyze.<br />

The system realizes a four tier system structure based<br />

on B/S (browser/server). The whole system should have<br />

good expansibility and commonability, so it is convenient<br />

to carry on the secondary development and expand on<br />

windows live id platform that it includes virtual earth,<br />

unified user identity authentication (Live ID), online<br />

communication by Windows Live Messenger, Windows<br />

Live Search and Silverlight streaming. Combining<br />

Silverlight technology to compose the rich client, by<br />

using this technology, we will have a rich content and<br />

wonderful visual effect of flowery interactive experiences.<br />

II. OVERALL DESIGN<br />

Agricultural information module can be divided into<br />

three smaller modules, agricultural information<br />

visualization module, agricultural supply management<br />

module and search module. The main function of<br />

agricultural information visualization module is view and<br />

contrast agricultural information by using silverlight that<br />

it shows an intuitive comparison through the wonderful<br />

visual effect chart. The main function of agricultural<br />

supply and demand management module is to look over<br />

and release supply and demand information. Search<br />

module mainly have supply and demand search, price<br />

search, technology search, market search and<br />

comprehensive search. Allowing users to search the<br />

entire system resources so as to quick location resources.<br />

Expert-assisted module mainly introduces various<br />

experts, on-line question and answer with experts,<br />

intelligent analysis. Interactive information through QQ<br />

and MSN. You can ask for help from expert online or<br />

send leaving message to experts. By using the technology<br />

of visual/Google earth and Silverlight to show the<br />

analysis of distribution line on the map and to show the<br />

price forecast analysis through the chart.<br />

The user management module manages the<br />

permission of system user and group management that it<br />

helpful for multi-user system management tasks.<br />

Public information module provides users with some<br />

common traditional electron-agriculture service functions,
