British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Fenton, DougDoug was born in Vancouver, <strong>BC</strong> on August 8, 1921. He enlisted on August 8, 1942and trained as an anti-aircraft artillery specialist with the 21 st Battery attached to theCanadian Scottish Regiment in Victoria, <strong>BC</strong>. His initial duty was to safeguard theVancouver area, but in the fall of 1943, orders were received for overseas combatduty. Doug took part in the D-Day invasion that began on June 6, 1944, landed onthe Belgian coast near Gent and then went by truck to the front line in Holland.Several two man slit trenches were dug for protection as the front line advanced intoGermany. Doug experienced going days without food, capturing German soldiers atEmerich and discovering a deserted German army camp. When the Armistice wassigned, Doug was transferred back to Holland to work at repairing instruments withthe Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers section. Honourably discharged onNovember 24, 1945, Doug was a successful jeweler in Squamish for thirty-eightyears and has been a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #277 in Squamish for fifty years.Findlater, Daniel HamiltonDaniel was born in Alix, Alberta in 1916. He served in the CalgaryRegiment (Tank) and the Royal Army Service Corps in Canada duringWorld War Two from 1939-1945 and in Peacetime from 1949 until 1966.Daniel retired in Wainwright, Alberta with the rank of Sergeant. Daniel livedin Vernon, <strong>BC</strong> where he was a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #25 and died in1986.Findler, Robert OwenRobert was born in Failsworth, Lancashire, England on November 22, 1922.He was a Corporal in the Royal Canadian Air Force in World War Two fromJanuary 1941 until June 1946 and served as a Wireless Operator (Air) andWireless Traffic Supervisor in the RCAF’s 83 Group Headquarters, MobileSignals Unit, 2 nd Tactical Air Force in the UK, France (Normandy),Belgium, Holland, Germany, and Denmark. Robert has been a member of<strong>Legion</strong> Branch #229 in Whalley, <strong>BC</strong> for twenty-seven years.www.legionbcyukon.ca113
