British ColumBia / Yukon CommandLatremouille, Joseph Louis (Louie)Louie was born in Little Fort, BC in 1915. He worked for the BritishColumbia Forest Service in Merritt before he enlisted in the Army inVancouver on July 29, 1942. He served in Canada during World War Twountil he was discharged in Vancouver on March 15, 1946. He was awardedthe War Medal 1939-1945. Louie died in Merritt, BC in 2005.Lawry, ArchieArchie was born in Wales in 1895. He served with the Welsh DragoonGuards in France in World War One and in Canada and England with the 8 thCanadian Field Artillery RCA in World War Two. Archie was awarded theMilitary Medal for retrieving an officer under heavy enemy fire in WorldWar One. He enlisted as a Gunner and reached the rank of BattalionQuartermaster Sergeant. Archie was a member of Fernie Legion Branch #36for fifty-one years.Laycock, Jessie JoanJoan was born in Eccleshill, Bradford, Yorkshire, England on June 24, 1924.She enlisted in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) on April 14, 1942when she was seventeen and trained at Morecambe, Lancashire, England.She was posted to a Balloon Barrage unit guarding the Imperial ChemicalIndustry’s plant in Durham County, an important industrial target forGerman bombers. In 1943, Joan remustered as a driver by standing onpebbles when she was measured to reach the minimum height requirementof five feet two inches, and was sent to North Wales for training. She spentthe next two and a half years in Inverness, Scotland where for a time, sheenjoyed the company of her sister, who was also a member of the WAAF.Joan drove staff cars, large trucks, and ambulances in Scotland and thenwent to the Isle of Wight for the remainder of the war. Joan and her husbandand four children came to Canada in 1957.www.legionbcyukon.ca165
