British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>MacDonald, Roderick Malcolm (Bobby)Bobby was born in Burquitlam, British Columbia on May 26, 1918. Heattended school in Quesnel and Gravelle Ferry and first enlisted in the Armywhen he was 16. His father had him discharged because he was too youngbut Bobby enlisted on January 15, 1943, shortly after his marriage to hiswife Ella. He was taken prisoner in 1945. Bobby died in an accident inMontreal on his way home to <strong>BC</strong>. He is buried in the Soldier’s Plot inVancouver.MacFarlane, DougDoug was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton in 1941. He joined the RoyalCanadian Corp of Signals in 1959 and was posted to Churchill, Manitoba;Halifax; Winnipeg; Debert, Nova Scotia; Calgary; Petawawa; and Kingston,Ontario. He also served time at Lahr and Baden Baden in Germany. Histrade was 052 Military Lineman with the rank of Sergeant. Doug wasawarded the Canadian Forces Decoration and retired in 1981. He has livedin Terrace since 1981 and is a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #13 in Terrace,where he is the Service Officer.MacKenzie, Henry Hector (Harry)Harry was born in Anyox, <strong>BC</strong>, went to school in Nelson and completed one year atU<strong>BC</strong>. Harry enlisted in the Army on June 19, 1941 and transferred to the RCAF onAugust 13, 1941. He went to Toronto for assessments, then to Trenton, ON for guardduty. He was posted to flying school in Hamilton, ON in January 1942, then toDunnville, ON. Promoted to Sergeant in July 1942, he joined 198 Squadron RAF atManston, England in August 1942. Harry was promoted to Flight Sergeant in January1943 then to Flying Officer in December 1943. He left Manston on January 3, 1944 fora mission over France. Harry was shot down and his body recovered by the Germans.Sixty-five years later, five Frenchmen recovered the remains of Harry’s plane from aswamp near Sacy-le-Grand, in northern France. They planned to commemorate Harry’ssacrifice by naming a street in the town after him, constructing a memorial out of hisengine, and inviting his relatives to the official unveiling sometime before November11, 2011. Harry is buried in the military cemetery of Beauvais, France.www.legionbcyukon.ca185
