British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Paddinge, Derrick JohnDerrick was born in Vancouver in 1964 and raised in North Delta. He joined the RoyalWestminster Regiment Infantry and later transferred to the Regular Force Army as a supplytechnician in 1985. He served in the Persian Gulf War 1990-01, in the UN missions in Croatia1992 and 1995, and with NATO in Bosnia 1997. He was posted to Chilliwack (1986), Germany(1988), Calgary (1993), and Edmonton (1996). His Units included 311 Forward Mobile SupportUnit, 4 Service Battalion, 1 General Support Battalion, and Area Support Unit, Edmonton. Derrickwas awarded the Gulf & Kuwait Medal with Bar, the Special Service Medal with ‘NATO’ bar, theCF Peacekeeping Service Medal, the UN Protection Force medal with numeral ‘2’, the NATOmedal with ‘Former Yugoslavia’ Bar, the Canadian Forces Decoration with Bar, the Liberation ofKuwait Medal (Saudi Arabia), the Liberation Medal (Kuwait), and the <strong>Command</strong>er-in-Chief UnitCommendation (1 R22eR Battle Group) for the Sarajevo airport in 1992. Derrick retired as aCorporal in 2006 after twenty-three years of service. He moved to <strong>BC</strong> in July 2008. He has beena <strong>Legion</strong> member since 1992 and was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms of Langley Branch #21 in 2011.Page, Iris M.Iris was born on June 1, 1926 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.She enlisted at Hanley Staffordshire in 1943 when she was seventeen andvolunteered for service in the Royal Navy Women’s Service. After takingpost-secondary courses in physics, she taught a course in radio mechanics.After graduation, Iris was chosen to study a new piece of equipment, theYE/YG homing beacon used for guiding aircraft. Iris was transferred toGlasgow and assigned to work on warships on the North Sea run that madeGreenock their home base. Iris was later transferred to a Fleet Air Arm airstation in Orkney to look after all the ground radio equipment. While shewas there, a unit of Sikorsky helicopters arrived, the first ever to be used byany armed forces. Iris married one of the Canadian pilots in 1946 and settledin Lachine, Quebec. She moved to Qualicum Beach in 1980 where she hasbeen a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #76 for seven years.Paquette, Joseph Emile RogerJoseph was born in Montreal in 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force onNovember 18, 1942 and earned his Air Bomber Wing in November 1944. After his release,Joseph joined the Regular Force in 1946 as an armourer and served with 426 TransportSquadron during the entire Korean War, from 1950 to 1953. Joseph was stationed with #4Wing in Germany between 1954 and 1957 and was at Comox, <strong>BC</strong> between 1957 and 1963.He was commissioned as an aerospace engineer in 1963 and was <strong>Command</strong>er of 1123TSD, Rolls Royce & Co., 1963-1966; <strong>Command</strong>er 1107 TSD, Fairey Aviation Ltd., 1966-1970; and 2 nd in <strong>Command</strong> of CFTSR Halifax, Nova Scotia until his release in 1972.Joseph was CO of #561Air Cadet Squadron from 1972 to 1979. Joseph was awarded theAir Bomber Wing, the 1939-1945 War Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, theUnited Nations Medal for Korea, the Special Service Medal, the Canadian VolunteerService Medal (Korea), the Korea Medal, and the Canadian Forces Decoration. He hasbeen a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #4 in Chilliwack for thirty-eight years.www.legionbcyukon.ca219
