British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>McLauchlin, DouglasDouglas was born in Winona, Manitoba on May 18, 1918 and enlisted in theArmy in Trail, <strong>BC</strong> in 1940. He did his basic training in Westminster, <strong>BC</strong>and Aldershot, NS. Initially, he was with the Rocky Mountain Rangers buttransferred to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, going overseas in1942. He was attached to the Seaforth Highlanders and then to the PrincessPatricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in the United Kingdom. Douglas wasdischarged in 1946 and worked in the bush until he retired in 2005. He hasbeen a member of Branch #167 in Lumby, <strong>BC</strong> for thirty-six years.McMullen, Raymond RichardRaymond was born August 5, 1920 in Vernon, <strong>BC</strong>. He enlisted in the <strong>BC</strong> Dragoons on June13, 1940 and went to Northwest Europe as a clerk, wireless operator, driver operator, gunner,and driver mechanic. He spent nine months as a P.O.W. in Stalag 12D. He was discharged onAugust 31, 1945. Raymond re-enlisted on May 12, 1947 in the Lord Strathcona’s Horse andin 1950, was promoted to Sergeant. He was posted to I & A Cadre in Vernon but returned tothe Lord Strathcona’s Horse in 1956. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in March 1962 andto Warrant Officer in 1968. Raymond was released in May 1969. He later served with theCadets and was <strong>Command</strong>ing Officer at Vernon Army Cadet Camp before he transferred tothe Supplementary Reserve and was released in August 1986 as a Captain. He received the1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the Canadian VolunteerService Medal, the King George VI Medal, the Centennial Medal and the Canadian ServiceMedal and Bar. He was a <strong>Legion</strong> Member for forty-three years and a Life Member of Branch#25 Vernon and Branch #167, Lumby. He died in Vernon on March 5, 2003.McMullen, William (Bill)Bill was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1949. He enlisted in the Navy in 1967and took basic training in HMCS Cornwallis and Halifax, and then went toCamp Borden, Ontario to train as a ship’s writer. He was then posted toEsquimalt until 1971 and Canadian Forces Station Masset until 1974. Billre-mustered at 1 st Air Movement in Edmonton as a traffic technician in theAir Force. After qualifying as a load master, he joined 436 Squadron inTrenton and while there, did a six-month tour on the Golan Heights in Israel.He was with 2 Air Movement Units until 1981 with 429 Squadron inWinnipeg before going to Calgary, Vancouver, and finally, in 1991,Edmonton. Bill retired in 1996. He is a Life Member and Past President of<strong>Legion</strong> Branch #167 in Lumby, <strong>BC</strong>, where he has been a member fortwenty-seven years.www.legionbcyukon.ca199
