British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Green, Jack Allan (Joe)Joe was born in Keewatin, Ontario on April 28, 1926. He joined the Royal CanadianNaval Volunteer Reserve at HMCS Chippawa on April 28, 1943. After seamanshiptraining at HMCS Cornwallis and attending Telegraphist School in Saint Hyacinthe,Quebec, Joe was at last posted to HMCS Stettler via HMCS Stadacona in May 1944and participated in group Workups in Bermuda in June and July 1944. Joe was thenposted to HMCS Sioux and did three trips to Russia during the winter of 1944-45and a side trip to evacuate civilians from Soroya, Norway. HMCS Sioux was thensent to Halifax for refit and VE Day. Joe was released at HMCS Chippawa inOctober 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp,the 1939-1945 Star, and the 1939-1945 War Medal. Joe has been a <strong>Legion</strong> Membersince 1945 in Keewatin and Marathon in Ontario, and Castlegar, Prince Rupert,Rothesay, Enderby, and now Salmon Arm Branch #62 in <strong>BC</strong>. He has served on theExecutive in most Branches, and served as President in Castlegar, <strong>BC</strong>.Griffiths, Raymond F.Raymond joined the Royal Air Force at the outbreak of World War II in1939 in Wolverhampton, England and was assigned to WellesbourneAirfield, Mountford, England. During his service, he and his unit weresubjected to German raids during the Battle of Britain. One situation thattook place was when a bomber crash landed on the base and he was assistingthe crew to get clear when the plane blew up. Raymond was injured andspent six weeks in hospital. His job on the base was as flying controller withthe rank of Corporal. He volunteered for advanced training and was sent toPenhold, Alberta. Raymond left the Air Force in July 1948 and came backto Canada. He now resides in Cranbrook, <strong>BC</strong> where he is a long timemember of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #24.Grillo, FatimiaFatimia was born in Horta Falls, Azores in 1933. She served in the HortaPolice Force in the Azores and during the Korean War served with theMilitary Police as a translator. Fatimia was a member of Smoky Smith<strong>Legion</strong> Branch #16 in South Vancouver for sixteen years. She died in 2001.www.legionbcyukon.ca131
