British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Kelly, BobBob was born in Vancouver on April 8, 1936. He enlisted in the RoyalCanadian Air Force in December 1953 and served at 4 Wing in BadenBaden, Germany; Sea Island, British Columbia; Cold Lake, Alberta; 3 Wingin Zweibrücken, Germany; Comox, British Columbia; Ismailia, Egypt; andEdmonton, Alberta, before retiring in 1978. Bob joined the <strong>Legion</strong> Branch#17 in Courtenay in 1968 and remained there for forty-two years. He passedaway in April 2011 at Surrey, <strong>BC</strong>.Kelly, John ThomasJohn was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan in 1914. John served in theArmy with the Seaforth Highlanders in the UK, the Mediterranean, andContinental Europe during World War Two. He was awarded the 1939-1945Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Defence Medal, the ItalyStar, and the France and Germany Star. John was a member of <strong>Legion</strong>Branch #57 in Mission for fifty-seven years. He died in 2011.Kennedy, Robert DonaldRobert was born on August 17, 1922. After attending school in Vancouver, heworked for Coast Boats because he loved travelling on the water. Later, he becamea baker and a cook with many specialties. He joined the Army at 17 when war brokeout in 1939, hoping to become a communications operator, as he was an amateurradio ham operator but he was assigned to bake and cook with the Loyal EdmontonRegiment. Bitterly disappointed, Robert became AWOL for over two years as soonas he was given leave and then sailed in merchant ships in convoys until late 1944.Early in 1945, Robert was apprehended and he spent a few weeks in detention onLittle Mountain. Considering his convoy service, the prosecutor gave Robert thechoice of remaining in detention or going overseas. Robert chose overseas serviceand served in Belgium, France, Germany, and England for a year, returning toCanada in February 1946 to receive an honourable discharge. Robert was a memberof <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #006 in Cloverdale for fifty years before his death on July 3, 1999.www.legionbcyukon.ca157
