British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>McQueen, GeorgeGeorge was born in Meerut, India on January 23, 1926. He enlisted in the British Army in 1944 andcommissioned at the Indian Military Academy into the Black Watch. Discharged in 1948, he reenlistedin 1949 a Corporal and recommissioned into the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders inHong Kong. While enroute to Hong Kong he was switched to the Seaforth Highlanders in Malaysiato serve one year fighting Communist guerrillas before requesting a transfer to the Argylls in Korea.He served with them in Korea, Hong Kong, and Scotland where he became an instructor at theRegimental Depot in Stirling Castle. George resigned in 1954 and came to Canada where he joinedthe Canadian Black Watch as a Lieutenant in Camp Aldershot. His subsequent postings were to HQCentral <strong>Command</strong>, Oakville; 2RHC in Gagetown and Germany; India, Pakistan, and Kashmir withUNIPOM and UNMOGIP; HQ Prairie Region, Winnipeg; HQ Training <strong>Command</strong>, Winnipeg; Syriawith UNTSO; HQ Air <strong>Command</strong>, Winnipeg; and, finally, HQ Prairie Militia Area, Winnipeg.George retired to Lumby, <strong>BC</strong> in 1978. He is a Past President and Life Member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch#167 in Lumby where he has been a member for thirty-three years.Merritt, Harvey ElvinHarvey was born in Russell, Manitoba on April 9, 1922. He served overseasfor six years with the rank of Sergeant-Major in the Fort Garry Horse inEngland, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany during World War Two.Harvey and his wife Janice live in Okanagan Falls, <strong>BC</strong> where Harvey hasbeen a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #227 for fifty years.Miller, Adelbert Martin (Buddy)Buddy was born in Vancouver in 1922 but grew up and attended school inQuesnel, <strong>BC</strong>. He joined the Army in 1939 in Quesnel and was sent to Alaskaafter completing basic training. He was later posted to Britain and landedwith the Royal Regiment of Canada on Juno Beach, Normandy on D-Day.Buddy was killed in action on August 28, 1944 and buried in Bretteville-sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery in France. He was awarded the 1939-1945Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medaland Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-1945.www.legionbcyukon.ca203
