British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Blythe, DavidDavid was born in Penticton, <strong>BC</strong> in 1982. He served in Afghanistan and AbuDhabi with the 1 st Field Ambulance from 2001 until 2008. While inAfghanistan, between 2001 and 2006, David served as an Infantry FieldMedic with the 1 Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group,as part of Task Force Orion. In 2006, David went to Abu Dhabi on specialduty. He is a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #227 in Okanagan Falls, <strong>BC</strong>.Bohan, John HerbertJohn was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1917. He enlisted in the Army inVancouver, <strong>BC</strong> and took his basic training in Vernon, <strong>BC</strong>. He was first sentto Currie Barracks in Calgary and then to Italy with the SeaforthHighlanders. John was at Ortona in December 1943 and was injured inRimini on May 23, 1944. After recovering in hospital, he was sent back intoaction and was killed in Italy’s Liri Valley on September 20, 1944.Boutilier, RussRuss was born in New Waterford, NS in 1935. He joined the RCAF, serving as an air frame fitterbefore training as a flight engineer and accumulating over 15,000 flying hours. During his 35-year career, Russ served with five squadrons in Canada, The Congo, Egypt, Cyprus, Vietnamand Cambodia. While serving as a Warrant Officer with 442 Squadron at 19 Wing Comox, Russtook part in a difficult rescue mission off Cape Lazo. For this, he earned the Chief of DefenceStaff’s Commendation “in recognition of the calm and professional manner in which heperformed as the flight engineer of a Labrador helicopter during a rescue mission off Cape Lazo,<strong>BC</strong> on 16 July, 1974. Warrant Officer Boutilier’s exhibition of great skill, judgement anddetermination in conducting the live hoist operation whilst under extreme pressure in hazardousflying conditions, played a major role in the successful rescue of the small boat aground on areef.” Russ also earned the Canada Defence and Peacekeeping Medals. When he retired, Russjoined <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #17 in Courtenay where he has been a member for thirty-two years. Hehas served as Treasurer, Secretary, and Secretary-Manager (1987-1993).www.legionbcyukon.ca75
