British ColumBia / Yukon CommandSeward, Leonard BrianBrian was born in Manchester, England on December 12, 1927. He enlistedin the Royal Navy in Campbeltown, Scotland on December 4, 1944 andserved in Europe and the Far East for three years in Deep Sea Rescue. Brianwas in the Merchant Navy from 1947 until 1955 when he moved to Canada.In 1962, he joined the Canadian Army Reserves in Vancouver and servedwith the Canadian Engineers until 1990, retiring with the rank of Captain.In 1979, Brian was made a Member of The Order of Military Merit inrecognition of his conspicuous merit and exceptional service in theCanadian Forces. He lives in North Vancouver, where he is the curator ofthe Brain Seward Museum at the 6 th Engineer Squadron, located at theLieutenant Colonel James Pemberton Fell Armoury, North Vancouver.Brian is a member of Legion Branch #60, West Vancouver.Shackleton, James F. (Jim)Jim was born in Nut Mountain, Saskatchewan in 1932. He served in the AirForce in Peacetime with various units in Canada and in Germany in BadenBaden and Oldenburg. Jim is a member of Legion Branch #26 in Kelowna.Shogren, Melvin A.Melvin was born in 1935. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1953and was sent back east for basic training and then to 443 Squadron at SeaIsland, BC in 1955. He then went to 434 Squadron 3 (F) Wing, Germany;414 Squadron and 433 Squadron, North Bay, Ontario; 425 SquadronNamao, Alberta, and Bagotville, Quebec; 409 Squadron, Comox, BC;AMDU Trenton, Ontario, and 416 Squadron, Chatham, Ontario. Melvinrose to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer and is a member of the Order ofMilitary Merit. He was discharged in 1990. Melvin lives in Cranbrook, BCwhere he has been a member of Legion Branch #24 for thirty-seven years.www.legionbcyukon.ca249
