British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Redekop, Frank JamesFrank was born in Burnaby, <strong>BC</strong> on November 9, 1965. He enlisted in theCanadian Forces in 1983 in Vancouver and after basic training in CF<strong>BC</strong>ornwallis, Nova Scotia, was posted to CFB Petawawa for further trainingas a member of the 8 th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s). He wasrotated to CFB Lahr with his regiment in 1987 and retired in 1989 becauseof knee problems. Frank was awarded the Special Service Medal–NATO.He has been a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #006 for twenty-three years and iscurrently Branch Vice President.Reeve, Ernest OwenOwen was born in Squamish, <strong>BC</strong> on November 23, 1915. He joined the Armyin the summer of 1941 and trained in Vernon, <strong>BC</strong> and later in Kingston, ON.Owen was assigned to the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals as part of the 1 stCanadian Infantry Division of the Canadian Army. His responsibility was toprovide land communication and signalling. Owen was sent to theMediterranean as part of the Operation Husky invasion of Sicily and about sixweeks later took part in the assault upon Italy. He arrived in Rome on D-Day(June 6, 1944). Owen then went to Marseilles and through France to meet upwith the rest of the Allied Western Front. His division joined in the assaultthrough Belgium, Holland, and Germany and he was discharged early in thewinter of 1946. Owen has been a member of Diamond Head <strong>Legion</strong> Branch#277 in Squamish for over fifty years of service.Reid, Walter GeorgeWalter was born in Whakatane, New Zealand in 1939. He came to Canadain 1959 and joined the Army in January 1960. He served two hitches in theSignal Corps, stationed at the Canadian Joint Air Training Centre (CJATC)Rivers, Manitoba with Air Support Signal Troop and overseas on a UNPeacekeeping tour in the Congo. Walter lives in Errington, <strong>BC</strong>, where he isan Alpaca hobby farmer. He has been a member of Arrowsmith <strong>Legion</strong>Branch #49 in Parksville, <strong>BC</strong> for three years.www.legionbcyukon.ca235
