British ColumBia / Yukon CommandTufford, Lawrence Wilfred DavidLawrence was born in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 1915. He served in theRoyal Canadian Air Force as an instructor for aero engine mechanics withthe rank of Sergeant from 1940 to 1945. Lawrence lived in Portage la Prairieall his life until he moved to Abbotsford, BC where he was a member ofLegion Branch #15 for sixty years. Two of Lawrence’s four sons enlisted inthe Navy. He died on October 27, 2003.Turner, RoyRoy was born in Vancouver on March 25, 1951. He enlisted in the Army inJuly 1970 and took basic training at CFB Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. He thenwent to Kingston, Ontario for driver training and then on to CFB Borden,Ontario for vehicle technician training before being posted to the BaseMaintenance Department in Vancouver. Roy’s next posting was to CampVernon, BC in 1974 where he stayed for one year. He was then attached tothe Navy as what he calls “a bolt mechanic” during the 1976 Olympicsailing events in Kingston, Ontario. After the Olympics, Roy returned toVernon where he took his release in 1978. He lives in Lumby, BC where hehas been a member of Legion Branch #167 for forty years and has beenPresident since 2010.Turrill, ElinorElinor was born in Seneca, Ontario on January 16, 1937. She enlisted in theRoyal Canadian Air Force in Hamilton, Ontario on January 4, 1956 and wassent to St. Jean, Quebec for basic training. After completing a FighterControl Operation’s course in Clinton, Ontario, she went to CFS Foymount,part of the Pinetree Line of NORAD radar stations, where she also workedin the station’s post office and was remustered as a recreation specialist.Elinor took her release in December 1957 and after working in severalplaces around Canada, settled in Lumby, BC in 1993. She has been active inthe community as a School Trustee, Councillor, and member of theCommunity Health Council. Elinor has been a member of Legion Branch#167 in Lumby for seventeen years.www.legionbcyukon.ca279
