British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Wedgewood, CliffCliff was born on February 25, 1939 in Welwyn, Saskatchewan. He enlistedin the Royal Canadian Air Force in Regina for a three-year term on July 15,1957 and did basic training in Montreal before going to Clinton, Ontario forone year, learning basic electronics and radar. He then went to Camp Bordenfor specialized training as an advanced systems mechanic (Air), using oneof the first types of computers. When the Avro Arrow program wascancelled in 1959, the Royal Canadian Air Force no longer needed manytechnicians and offered Cliff his discharge. He accepted, and left on April12, 1959. He has been a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch # 167 in Lumby forforty-two years.Whiskin, Arthur WilliamArthur was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1919. He enlisted in theRoyal Canadian Air Force on January 10, 1941 and served in Borden,Penhold, and Laval. Arthur was discharged on October 29, 1945 but reenrolledon October 25, 1946 and served until May 13, 1975. He retired asa Chief Warrant Officer CD2. During this time, he was a metal worker,machinist, metals technician, instructor, quality control, aircraft fluidhandling supervisor, and instructor. Arthur received the Canadian VolunteerService Medal, the War Medal 1935-45, the Canadian Centennial Medal, theCanadian Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, and the Canadian ForcesDecoration. After his release, he worked for the Matsqui Prison inAbbotsford, <strong>BC</strong>, in charge of preventive maintenance. Arthur and his wifeGerry, who also served in the RCAF, moved to Vernon <strong>BC</strong> in 1997. He is amember of the RCAF Pre-War Club.Whiskin, Geraldine Mildred (Gerry)Gerry was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan in 1921. She enlisted in the RoyalCanadian Air Force in Calgary, Alberta in September 1943 and was releasedin July 1946. She received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and WarMedal 1935-45. As she was trained in accounting, she became a clerkaccountant in Canada. While in Penhold, she met her husband ArthurWhiskin who was also in the Air Force. Gerry enjoyed her Air Force life andmet many people from Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Shespent another twenty-five years living the Air Force life, traveling toGermany and all across Canada with Arthur. Gerry and Arthur retired inAbbotsford and moved to Vernon, <strong>BC</strong> in 1997.www.legionbcyukon.ca287
