British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Low, Grant BigelowGrant was born on December 20, 1924 in Cardston, Alberta. He served as adispatch rider in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Canada duringWorld War Two. Grant has been a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #227 inOkanagan Falls for fifty years. He lives in Oliver, <strong>BC</strong>.Lunn, Gerald Alfred (Joker)Joker was born in Quesnel, <strong>BC</strong> in 1919. He enlisted in September 1939 aftercompleting one year at the University of <strong>BC</strong> and served with the 2 ndSearchlight Battery before obtaining a transfer to the Royal Canadian AirForce in 1941. He graduated as an air gunner with the rank of Pilot Officerin March, 1942 and was sent overseas one month later. Joker was promotedto Flight Lieutenant and Squadron Gunnery Officer while serving first witha coastal reconnaissance unit and then with the RCAF’s Heavy BomberSquadron in Britain. After his plane was shot down on a mission overGermany on April 16, 1943, he was declared missing and presumed dead.Joker’s family received his 1939-1945 War Medal after the war. Two ofJoker’s brothers also served in the RCAF in World War Two.MacAlpine, Alfred EdwinAlfred was born in Lower Cambridge, New Brunswick on December 5,1919. He enlisted in the Army in the Saint John Fusiliers in September 1939and later transferred to the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. He wasreleased in September 1945 and in August 1950, enrolled in the SpecialService Force for Korea, where he was wounded. He later transferred to theRoyal Canadian Engineer and served in Edmonton, Whitehorse, VedderCrossing and Wainwright until his release in 1968. Alfred served inNorthwest Europe and was awarded the 1939/1935 Star, the NorthwestEurope 1944-1945 Medal, the Defence Medal, the Canadian VolunteerService Medal, the Canadian Forces Decoration with Bar, and the UnitedNations Korea Medal. Alfred joined the Royal Canadian <strong>Legion</strong> in 1972.He died in 2007.www.legionbcyukon.ca179
