British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Aves, Radford Edward (Ray)Ray was born in Quesnel, British Columbia on August 22, 1925. Heattended school there as well as in Prince Rupert for a short time. Heenlisted in the Army on August 13, 1943 and after basic training in Camrose,Alberta, went to the Corps Training Centre at Curry Barracks in Calgary.Three days before his 19 th birthday, he was sent to England and served inEurope until he was taken ill in Italy in October 1944. Ray died in 1945 andis buried in the Ancona War Cemetery in Italy.Aylesworth, Leonard (Roy)Roy was born in Innisfail, Alberta in 1936. He joined the Army on December 3, 1952at the age of 16 and was sent to Ipperwash, ON for basic training and junior NCOtraining. A year later, he was promoted to Corporal and in 1955 when he was stillonly 19, he was promoted to Sergeant. He spent time in the anti-tank platoon, trainedrecruits for three years, became the Nuclear Fallout Instructor for MB and SK, andthen was promoted to Staff Sergeant in December 1966. Posted to Cyprus inSeptember 1970, Roy was made Company Quartermaster then Company SergeantMajor after leaving Cyprus in 1971. In 1973, he was posted to Gagetown, NB to helpform the 1 st Canadian Forces Training Aids Detachment. Roy was posted to Victoriain 1976 and was released but immediately signed up for ‘B’ class for a further tenyears. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and Palm Leaf. Roy is a LifeMember of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #172, Esquimalt Dockyard, where he has held manypositions from Sergeant at Arms to President.Bachman, Charles LeeCharles was born in Hornepayne, Ontario in February 1934. He served inthe Royal Canadian Air Force in Peacetime in Canada. After enlisting in1953, he went to the Radar and Communication School of the RCAF inClinton, Ontario. After graduating, he served the next four years surveyingCanada’s north with the 408 Photo and Mapping Squadron out of RCAFRockcliffe Ontario. He then served four years in RCAF Marville, Francewith NATO, four years with Transport <strong>Command</strong> in Edmonton, four yearswith NORAD in North Bay, Ontario and 11 years with Training <strong>Command</strong>.Charles took his release in 1979 at RCAF Portage La Prairie, Manitoba andmoved to Kelowna <strong>BC</strong>. He has been a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #288 inWestbank, <strong>BC</strong> for three years.www.legionbcyukon.ca59
