British ColumBia / Yukon CommandMackie, James DonaldJames was born on June 1, 1941 in Vernon, BC. He enlisted in the RoyalCanadian Navy on September 23, 1959 in Vancouver, BC and left the sameday for the naval training base HMCS Cornwallis in the Annapolis Valley inNova Scotia. He completed basic training on January 26, 1960 and wasposted to HMCS Sioux after having two weeks leave in Halifax duringwhich he met his future wife. James served on HMCS Kootenay, on HMCSStadacona, where he trained as a gunner (weapon surface), HMCS TerraNova, HMCS Beacon Hill, HMCS Algonquin, and finally HMCSStadacona. He was released on September 23, 1967. James has been amember of Legion Branch #167 in Lumby for forty-two years.MacLean, Allan GordonAllan was born in Melita, Manitoba in 1923. He served in the Navy duringWorld War Two on Corvettes HMCS Pictou (K146) and HMCS Norsyd(K520) on the North Atlantic and to Russia. Allan was a Legion member inVancouver. He died in 2002.Marunchak, John HarryJohn joined the Canadian Army on November 1, 1941 at Vernon, BC. Hewas assigned to the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineersand was sent overseas after basic training. His unit served with the 5 thCanadian Armored Brigade in Italy, where they were involved in the Battleat Ortona. John’s unit had to go out and recover parts from equipment thathad been hit in order to keep what they had running and fighting, work madeeven more difficult by the mud caused by heavy rains. A Lance Corporal,John also served in Britain, France, Holland, and Germany. He received theItaly Star, the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer ServiceMedal and Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. After being honourablydischarged on October 24, 1945, John worked in the bush in the Creston andCranbrook areas. John resides in Cranbrook where he is a long time memberof Legion Branch #24 and received his 65-year pin in 2011.www.legionbcyukon.ca187
