British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Burstrom, AlfAlf was born in 1932 in Winnipeg and raised in Jasper, Alberta. One of hismany jobs was as a powderman’s helper on the Banff-Jasper Highway andafter enlisting in the Army in Vancouver on July 5, 1951, was placed withthe Engineers because of his work experience. Alf trained in Petawawa, ON,transferred to Chilliwack, <strong>BC</strong> to the 23 rd Field Squadron, and then wasassigned to 2 Troop Transport section. He went to Korea in March 1952 andserved near the front lines, assisting the Infantry and building bunker andtunnel complexes which are still being used today. Alf returned to Canadain May 1953 and was discharged in 1954. He resides near Valemount, <strong>BC</strong>where he is a member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #266.Cameron, Daniel J.Daniel was born in Salt Springs, Nova Scotia in 1920. He enlisted in theArmy in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on April 17, 1942. After two monthsof basic training, he was sent to Italy with the West Nova Scotia Regimentand the Prince Edward Island Regiment. Daniel was killed in action in 1943and is buried in the Bari War Cemetery in Italy. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the Defence Medal, the War Medal 1939-1945, andthe Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. A memorial cross wasgiven to Daniel’s mother, Mary Cameron, in Salt Springs.Camsell, FredFred was born on July 3, 1935 in Hay River, Northwest Territories. Afterenlisting in the RCAF in Edmonton in 1953, he took basic training at St.Jean, Quebec and then trained as a radar technician in Clinton, Ontario. Hewas posted to Parent, Quebec before returning to Clinton for a year ofadvanced training. He then served in Tofino, <strong>BC</strong>; Clinton as an Instructor;Parent as a Sergeant; Keesler AFB in Mississippi, USA; Saint-Moïse,Quebec; Sydney, Nova Scotia as a Warrant Officer; Moosonee on JamesBay, Ontario; Gypsumville, Manitoba; North Bay, Ontario; Holberg onVancouver Island, <strong>BC</strong>; Beauséjour, Manitoba; Baldy Hughes near PrinceGeorge, <strong>BC</strong>; Goose Bay, Labrador; and finally Chilliwack, <strong>BC</strong>. Fred wasdischarged in 1992 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He has been amember of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #167 Lumby for eighteen years.www.legionbcyukon.ca81
