British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Proudfoot, Bruce DouglasBruce was born in Bridgend, Wales in 1951. He joined the Royal Engineersin 1966 when he was fifteen and trained as a Plumber and Pipefitter Class 1and a Combat Engineer Class ll. After service in the UK, Gibraltar, Canada,Oman, and Germany, he left the Army in 1976. He has been a member ofthe <strong>Legion</strong> for thirty-five years, first with Branch #277 in Squamish andthen with Branch #293 in Port Alberni, <strong>BC</strong>.Purmal, Charles Sydney (Charlie)Charlie was born in Vancouver in 1925 and attended school in Quesnel, <strong>BC</strong>He enlisted in the Regina Rifles in World War Two and served in Canada,England, Holland, and Germany. Charlie was killed in action in Germany onApril 24, 1945, just thirteen days before the end of the war. He is buried inthe Holten Canadian War Cemetery, Netherlands. His brother, Rollie, servedwith the Montreal Highlanders and was wounded in the Battle of Normandy.Quanstrom, WilliamWilliam was born in 1917 and raised in Quesnel, <strong>BC</strong>. He enlisted in theRoyal Canadian Air Force as an air bomber in 1941, reaching the rank ofFlight Lieutenant. He went missing during mining operations with RAFBomber <strong>Command</strong>’s #12 Squadron in Europe on April 10, 1944. William’sbody was never recovered, and he is remembered on the RunnymedeMemorial in Surrey, England.www.legionbcyukon.ca231
