British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>VanIderstine, Justin F.Justin was born in Milton, Massachusetts in 1891. He immigrated to VernonBridge, PEI and later worked in a sugar refinery in Vancouver, <strong>BC</strong> with hisbrother Frank. Justin volunteered for the Canadian Overseas ExpeditionaryForce in 1916. He fought at Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele and waswounded twice. At the conclusion of World War I, Justin married beforereturning to Canada in 1919. In October 1940, Justin joined the Veteran’sGuard of Canada and served as a guard in World War II until the end of thewar. Justin settled in Eldon, PEI to take up farming and died there onOctober 13, 1977.Vogt, Henry LucasHenry was born in Saskatchewan in 1923. He joined the Regina Rifles in1942 and served in Canada and Continental Europe until 1945. Henry wasa member of <strong>Legion</strong> Branch #288 in Westbank, <strong>BC</strong> He died in 2011.Wallace, EleanorEleanor was born in Scotland in 1926 and her family moved toSaskatchewan when she was two months old. Her family then moved toTrail in 1932. In WWI, Eleanor’s father was in the Army on the front linesas a “runner”. Eleanor was one of the original highland dancers with theTrail Pipe Band, and she also worked at the Trail Hospital. She joined theCanadian Women’s Army Corps when she was eighteen. She trained inVancouver and Ontario, and was posted in the Provo Marshall’s office as aclerk. Her job was to issue slips for soldiers who went AWOL, a job shedescribes as “not terribly popular, but important just the same”. When shewas discharged, Eleanor returned to Trail. She joined the Trail <strong>Legion</strong> in1963.www.legionbcyukon.ca281
