British ColumBia / <strong>Yukon</strong> <strong>Command</strong>Francis, ByronByron was born in Mitchell, Ontario on August 26, 1871. He enlisted in the242 nd Forestry Battalion in Victoria, <strong>BC</strong> in September 1916 when he wasforty-five. His son, Herbert Arthur Francis, enlisted in the same Battalionone week later. Father and son served together in England and France beforereturning to Canada after the signing of the Armistice in 1918.Francis, Herbert ArthurHerbert was born in Poplar Point, Manitoba on November 9, 1891. Heenlisted in the 242 nd Forestry Battalion in Victoria, <strong>BC</strong> in October 1916, oneweek after his father Byron enlisted in the Battalion. Father and son servedtogether in England and France until they returned to Canada after thesigning of the Armistice in 1918.Fraser, PeterPeter was born in Zelma, Saskatchewan on March 6, 1923. He joined theNavy in 1941 and was posted as a Leading Signalman to the minesweeperHMCS Canso in Esquimalt, <strong>BC</strong> He sailed to Halifax, Nova Scotia andserved on convoy duties in the North Atlantic before going to England tosweep mines before D-Day. He went to Jamaica for a short time before hewas discharged in 1945 and returned to Vancouver. Peter died on March 28,2011 in Chilliwack, <strong>BC</strong>.www.legionbcyukon.ca119
