British ColumBia / Yukon CommandFindlow Reginald (Reg)Reg was born in England in 1923. He joined the Air Force in January 1942 atnineteen, was assigned guard duty at #12 Service Flying School at Manning Poolin Brandon, MB, and then went to Saskatchewan for more training. In January1943, Reg was stationed in Bournemouth, England and made 21 bombing raidsover Germany, 10 of which were on Berlin. His Lancaster bomber was shot downFebruary 20, 1943 over Leipzig, Germany and he became a POW. He also gaineda life membership in the prestigious “Caterpillar Club”. Reg met a fellow fromCreston, BC while being transferred from one POW camp to another, andremained good friends with him and his family. Reg said he was treated well as aPOW, but wouldn’t want to do it again. Liberated in April, 1945, he returned toHalifax, NS on Friday, July 13, 1945, and then went to Trail where he worked andraised his family. At the time of his death, Reg was the longest serving memberof Legion Branch #11 in Trail with sixty-five years of continuous service.Fiset, FloydFloyd was born in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan on September 18, 1926.After enlisting in the Army in Vernon in 1944, he took basic training inAlberta before going to Camp Petawawa, Ontario for a sniper course. Hethen took advanced training at the Vernon Army Camp where he shockedthe American instructors by putting four shots into a four inch circle at 400yards without using a scope. He was still training when the war ended inEurope so Floyd volunteered for service in the Pacific but the war endedthere before he could be deployed. He was discharged in 1946. Floyd hasbeen a member of Legion Branch #167 in Lumby for thirty-five years.Flegg, Aubrey PeacockAubrey was born in Welland, Ontario on October 18, 1917. He was amember of the Hong Kong Veterans Association. In 1957, while serving asa Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical EngineersReserve in Camp Shilo, Manitoba, Aubrey was flown by the RoyalCanadian Air Force to Toronto to meet Mrs. Ellen Field, a woman whoselife he saved during the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941. Mrs. Field knew onlyher rescuer’s last name, but was able to locate Aubrey after a country-widesearch. Aubrey was a member of Legion Branch #26 in Kelowna until hedied on April 23, 2011.www.legionbcyukon.ca115
