AWARDS AND PRIZESMiriam Friedman Ben-DavidNew Educator AwardThe Miriam Friedman Ben-David New Educator Award ispresented annually to an educator with fewer than fiveyears’ experience in teaching, who in the Committee’sview has made a significant contribution to teaching inmedicine and the healthcare professions. Nominationsare invited from AMEE members by 31 March in eachyear. Those nominated must also be AMEE members.The nominations are considered by an internationalCommittee and the winner announced at the time ofthe AMEE Conference, at the end of the first plenary onSunday 31 August. The winner is awarded £1,000 and freeregistration to the following year’s conference, wherehe/she is also invited to present a short communication.The winner of the 2104 Miriam Friedman Ben-David NewEducator Award is Dr Anna T Cianciolo, from SouthernIllinois University, School of Medicine, United States.Look out for her short communication presentation“Developing as a Medical Educator from the Outside In’ inSession 3E on Monday 1 September.Medical Teacher Poster PrizeThe aim of the prize is to select examples of good practicein preparing posters. During the afternoon of Tuesday 2September, a rosette will be attached to the board of the10 posters selected by the Committee for the short list,from which the winner will be selected and announcedat the closing session on Wednesday 3 September.Participants can therefore see the posters that, in theopinion of the Committee, best reflect the aspects of agood poster. The Committee will consist of conferenceparticipants including teachers and students. AMEE isgrateful to the publishers of Medical Teacher, Informa, foronce more providing the poster prize, consisting of £350.Alternatively, the winner may choose free registration forAMEE 2015 in Glasgow, UK.AMEE ePoster PrizeAMEE is awarding a prize of £350 (or free registration toAMEE 2015, Glasgow, UK) to the best ePoster as judgedby the Committee. The winner will be announced at theclosing session on Wednesday 3 September.AMEE ‘Teaching Innovation’ Awardssponsored by the Patil familyThese awards have been made possible through adonation from Professor Nivritti Patil, University ofHong Kong, in memory of his father. Over 800 abstractsubmitters indicated that they wished to be consideredfor this award. The Patil Award Committee selectedabstracts for two sessions based on their predeterminedcriteria. Committee members will attend both Patil shortcommunication sessions in the programme (session2F and session 4F on Monday 1 September) and maymake one or more awards. The criteria against whichthe presentations will be judged are: novelty; feasibility;transferability; logical articulation, and fit for purpose.Winners will be announced in the closing plenary and willreceive an AMEE Teaching Innovation Award Certificate,free registration to the following year’s AMEE Conferenceand may be invited to write up the work for MedicalTeacher.– 12 –
