Business and private banks
As an additional banking service provider, several business
banks are also found in Bonn and the surrounding region.
The majority of these are joint stock companies. In contrast
to the cooperatively-managed credit institutions, their
primary corporate strategy is that of attaining the highest
possible increase in profits for their investors. However, also
here, support or sponsoring for the benefit of the general
public is strongly emphasised. Commerzbank, a credit institute
that is strongly involved in society, has just moved back
into its newly renovated office at Münsterplatz.
An entirely different approach than that of the already described
institutions is found with private banks. Essentially,
their purpose is that of protecting and increasing the assets
of an entire family over several generations, both through
good times and bad, through crises, wars and currency
reforms. There you also find the explanation as to why the
founding year of a (private) bank provides important
indications regarding its reputation. As a general rule, with
the majority of private banks, the doors open for new
customers who bring along a minimum deposit amount of
about one million euros. There also are subsidiaries of a
number of private banks in Bonn and the surrounding area,
for instance “Bankhaus Lampe”.
Intermediation activities
The Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Chamber of Industry and Commerce
promotes exchange between credit institutions and companies
from other industries. In this regard, it considers one
of its tasks to be that of ensuring transparency relating to
the access and awarding of credits, as a mediator and
moderator. Other important issues for the responsible
Chamber of Industry and Commerce experts are also found
in the accompaniment of founders or companies in
decision-making processes and preparing them for possible
discussions with banks.
