Idyllisches Siegtal bei Dattenfeld, Gemeinde Windeck,
im Rhein-Sieg-Kreis
Idyllic Siegtal at Dattenfeld, municipality of Windeck,
in the Rhein-Sieg district
The play of the elements: discover natural
environments and habitats
Landscapes that appear to have come straight from a
storybook: dense, dark forests, jagged rocks, steep vineyards,
green meadows and deep river valleys turn this region into
an object of yearning. Ancient monasteries, bleak fortress
ruins and romantic castles bear witness to an eventful past.
In the first half of 2016, with its captivating, rich variety, the
Voreifel region, which is on the left side of the Rhine, registered
double-digit growth. When following idyllic routes
through Drachenfelser Ländchen, along the Römerkanal or
through the foothills, hikers experience a varied assortment
of different landscape perspectives. The vineyards in Ahrtal
and the natural landscapes along the Sieg are also very
popular with nature aficionados and hiking fans. Apart from
culture tourism, the desire to experience rest and relaxation
is a significant reason for regional tourism, yet the boundaries
are fluid. The Sieg natural trail, the so-called “Wasser -
burgen-Route“ and the Rhine cycle track offer holidaymakers
wishing to experience active relaxation both –
natural beauty and cultural treasures. For the fans of Rhine
Romanticism, the Rhinetal, with the Siebengebirge,
Drachen fels and Rolandsbogen, is an absolute highlight that
is not to be missed. The legendary Drachenfels is one of the
most popular excursion destinations in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Whoever has climbed up to the plateau is rewarded
with a fantastic view across the Rhineland and, when
weather conditions are favourable, it is even possible to
see Cologne Cathedral.
