Polymere sind die Basis zahlreicher Produktinnovationen von
heimischen Unternehmen aus der Kunststoffbranche.
Polymers represent the basis for a large number of product innovations
by local companies that are active in the plastics industry.
neering, Mechanical Engineering and Technical Journalism”
at the location in Sankt Augustin intensively busies itself,
among other things, with plastic and plastic machines. And
at the “Applied Sciences” faculty at the Rheinbach location,
there is a professorship for material and component testing,
and here, in particular, polymers. The intensive cooperation
between the two faculties covers a large part of the added
value plastic chain, from polymers to processing and right
up to life-cycle analyses. The University of Applied Sciences
has a great interest in cooperations and exchanges insights
and opinions with numerous local companies.
What is more, many companies belonging to the plastic
sector offer apprenticeships. This is because they have
realised early on that this places them in a position to cover
a share of their specialist staff requirements themselves. The
Dr Reinold Hagen foundation, which was founded in 1988,
supports them in this regard and considers itself a partner
for company-based training.
The companies also find future skilled workers in Troisdorf -
and here, in the course of education for plastic and rubber
technology which is offered by the Technical College at
the Georg-Kerschensteiner Vocational College of the Rhein-
Sieg district. The qualification as a “state certified technician”
provides persons with the skills to assume respon sibility
in medium-sized management. Among other things, the
industry master school in Troisdorf offers a qualification
measure consisting of 1190 teaching hours, allowing
graduates to bear the title of “Industrial Supervisor Subject
Area of Plastic (Chamber of Industry and Commerce)”.
Two additional institutions round off the plastic region’s profile:
the Interessengemeinschaft Plastik (IGK) (Interest Group
Plastics), which was founded in 2002 and consists of more
than 30 predominantly small and medium-sized member
companies that, among others, organise new mutual
product developments and the education and further
education of skilled workers, as well as the Qualitätsverband
Plastikerzeugnisse e. V. (QKE) (Quality Association Plastic
Products non-profit association), which is committed to
the coordination and organisation of quality assurance of
numerous market-leading plastic products.
Thus, it is not only the many companies but also the mixture
of a long-standing tradition and modern developments,
proximity and networking, as well as education institutions
and industry institutions that make the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg
plastic location so special.
