Commerce chief executive officer, Dr Hubertus Hille. At
Global Media Forum, it is all about the media and the interlocking
between media, politics and the industry – a vision
which, by means of this, does not only become a reality at
an international level but also at the location of Bonn.
It all started with an idea
Creative persons ensure dynamic motion in the region. They
initiate innovations that result in economic growth. The
bandwidth covered by culture and the creative industry is
huge. It covers everything from the broadcasting scene
to the book, music and art market, the film industry and the
market of performing arts, right up to the design industry,
architecture market, the press and advertising market, as
well as the software and gaming industry. The mutual
denominator is the so-called creative act – the idea that is
reflected in works, contents, productions and services. With
the creative industry, first and foremost, one tends to think
of large publishing houses, fashion companies and ad -
vertising agencies. However, for the largest part, the scene
consists of solo-acting, self-employed persons, as well as
small companies with two to five employees. This is confirmed
by the corresponding figures: in Bonn/Rhein-Sieg
about 5,600 companies are active in the cultural and creative
industry and, as such, represent a share of almost ten
percent of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce member
companies. All in all, in jobs in which social security
contributions are paid, the industry employs about 7,500 of
the total of 230,000 employees in the Chamber of Industry
and Commerce companies within the region. Of this share,
about 6,000 are employed in the City of Bonn and approx -
imately 1,500 in the Rhein-Sieg district. With nearly 3,000
companies, the advertising and market research sector is
the outstanding industry sector. The Kreativ Konzept agency
for advertising, the SimpleThings internet agency, the
Schwind’ agency for future communication as well as the PR
agency Patrick Schaab in Siegburg are among the most
renowned addresses in the region.
A stage for the creative industry
In Bonn/Rhein-Sieg, people working in the creative industry
come into contact with innovative companies. So as to
ensure that ideas and the recipients of these can gain even
better access to one another, the Chamber of Industry and
Commerce and Podium49 have established creative event
formats. At more than 25 idea portals, a dozen ITC forums
and four successful idea markets, more than 250 idea
providers, founders and young entrepreneurs have been
provided with a stage for presenting innovative ideas, in addition
to being offered an opportunity for networking in the
past years. Meanwhile, no small share of the former parti -
cipants has gone on to become highly successful – also far
beyond the regional borders.
