Beeindruckende Ausblicke auf den Rhein und das Siebengebirge
lassen das Herz jedes Wanderers höher schlagen.
Impressive views across the Rhine River and the Siebengebirge
are sure to excite every hiker.
Germany and overcomes an elevation gain of 220 metres in
a distance of about one and a half kilometres.
With a view toward the equally famous Rolandsbogen, our
family from Bremen takes the time to enjoy a little lunch
snack – and deliberate its afternoon programme. It would
appear as if they are going to split up for a few hours. The
mother and daughter take the decision to take a walk along
the Rheinsteig, a certified premium hiking trail that, with a
distance of 320 kilometres, connects Wiesbaden with Bonn.
The stages in Siebengebirge are considered among the
highlights. Among others, the Hansens climb to Petersberg,
where the famous Steigenbeiger Grandhotel Petersberg is
enthroned high above the Rhine River, once headquarters
of the Allied High Commission and guesthouse of the
federal government. Also found along the hiking trail: the
Heisterbach monastery ruin, with romantic remnants of
what used to be Heisterbach Cistercian abbey.
By the way, Rheinsteig is not the only long-distance trail in
the region. Spanning a distance of 200 kilometres, Natur -
steig Sieg offers impressive riverside landscapes and varied
views between Siegburg and Mudersbach. Germany’s
“hiking pope”, Manuel Andrack, does not only ap preciate
the beautiful surrounding nature but also the good ac -
cessibility: “the absolute highlight with Natursteig Sieg is
the fantastic accessibility of the respective stages. There is
no long-distance trail in NRW (and also in the rest of
Germany, I know of no comparable case) that is better
connected to the short-distance public transport offers,”
Andrack writes in his book “Die schönsten Wanderwege in
Nordrhein-Westfalen” (The most beautiful hiking trails in
North Rhine-Westphalia).
