Mit der Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) begann 1995
ein in der Bundesrepublik bislang einmaliges Experiment:
Im Rahmen des Bonn-Berlin-Ausgleichs wurde eine vom
Bund finanzierte Hochschule gegründet, um den Wandel
der Region von einer Verwaltungs- zu einer Wissensregion
zu unterstützen. Gestartet als Lehr- und Forschungsinsti -
tution für 2500 Studierende, lernen inzwischen über 8100
Studierende in 29 Studiengängen in den Hochschul -
städten Hennef, Rheinbach und Sankt Augustin. In zehn
Forschungsinstituten treibt die H-BRS die angewandte
Forschung voran; in Bonn betreibt sie gemeinsam mit der
RWTH Aachen, der Universität Bonn und der Fraunhofer
Gesellschaft das Bonn-Aachen International Center for
Information Technology (b-it), eines der führenden Lehrund
Forschungsinstitute für Informatik in Europa.
Auch im Wissenstransfer und bei Ausgründungen ist die
H-BRS sehr aktiv: Aktuell kooperieren mehr als 50 Unternehmen
mit der Hochschule; rund 100 Unternehmen
hat die H-BRS bei ihrer Gründung begleitet.

With the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences
(H-BRS) in 1995, a hitherto unique experiment was launch -
ed in the Federal Republic of Germany: within the framework
of the Bonn-Berlin Compensation agreement, a
higher education institution was founded that was funded
by the federal government. The purpose of this was to
support the transition from an administration region to a
knowledge region. Having started as a teaching and research
institution for 2,500 students, more than 8,100
students are meanwhile registered in 29 degree courses
in the university towns of Hennef, Rheinbach and Sankt
Augustin. In ten research institutions, the H-BRS promotes
applied research; in Bonn, in cooperation with the RWTH
Aachen, the University of Bonn and the Fraunhofer
Society, it operates the Bonn-Aachen International Center
for Information Technology (b-it), which is one of the
leading teaching and research institutes for infor matics
in Europe. H-BRS is also very active in knowledge transfer
and when it comes to spin-off companies: currently, more
than 50 companies cooperate with the University; H-BRS
has accompanied the founding of about 100 companies.
