commercial enterprises and persons taking up a commercial
secondary occupation are consulted. As a trend, it can be
said that the tendency to found a start-up in Bonn and the
Rhein-Sieg district has decreased slightly.
Nevertheless, it can be stated that the start-up dynamics in
the Rhein-Sieg district are still good. This is favoured, first and
foremost, by a variety of offers in the form of information
and consultation events. What is more, modern office pre -
mises with an outstanding infrastructure in Sankt Augustin
and Rheinbach that go by the name of “BusinessCampus-
Rhein-Sieg” are available. In addition to this, there is highly
intensive regional cooperation in the field of company startup
and management consulting- in particular with the
STARTERCENTER Bonn/Rhein-Sieg.
A central building block of the consultation activities of the
economic development is the BonnProfits initiative. It
informs, motivates and consults (in cooperation with
Sparkasse KölnBonn as a project partner) start-up founders
from the knowledge-intensive services in a highly targeted
manner. A successful element of this initiative is “BonnProfits
– Innovations- und Gründungszentrum” (BonnProfits –
Innovation and Start-Up Founder Centre), which opened in
January 2011 and offers optimal launching possibilities for
young companies, not least by means of offices at the best
address, numerous offers of help and as a network forger.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
The Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Chamber of Industry and Commerce
regularly issues an invitation to attend its idea exchange.
Newcomers, interested parties and successful entrepreneurs
from Bonn and the region utilise this platform for presenting
themselves, for exchanging information and, every once in
a while, a new idea has also already been born at this event.
As a general principle it can be observed that the company
founders are increasingly better qualified and that they plan
their self-employment with more lead time than in the past.
Start-up founders are supported and promoted by many
governmental and
private agencies. In

three areas: the support regarding livelihood, grants for consultation
and coaching, and the largest area, the financial
support for start-up founders, by means of credits, loans,
guarantees, and many others.
A whole string of different authorities support business startups
with subsidies. These include the employment agency,
the KfW Bank and other regional development banks or the
BAFA (Federal Office of Economics and Export Control).
Looking back, 2015 was a really good year for the German
economy and the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg region – with record
figures on the labour market. However, to ensure that
business will also remain this good in the coming years,
the region will always be in need of new innovations and
ideas.
