Das Fraunhofer-Institutszentrum Schloss Birlinghoven in
Sankt Augustin ist einer der größten außeruniversitären
Forschungsstandorte für Informatik und Mathematik in
Deutschland. Seine Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler
erforschen und entwickeln in interdisziplinären
Teams IT-Lösungen zum Nutzen für die Wirtschaft und
zum Wohl der Gesellschaft. Das Zentrum besteht aus den
Fraunhofer-Instituten für Algorithmen und Wissenschaft -
liches Rechnen SCAI, Angewandte Informationstechnik FIT,
Intelligente Analyse- und Informationssysteme IAIS sowie
einer Außenstelle des Fraunhofer SIT (Darmstadt).

Forschungsschwerpunkte sind benutzerfreundliche,
sichere Systeme, Optimierung, numerische Simulationen,
High-Performance Computing, Life Science Informatik,
Entwicklungen in den Bereichen Industrie 4.0 und dem
Internet der Dinge sowie Erschließung, Analyse und zielgerichtete
Nutzung von großen Datenmengen (Big Data,
Maschinelles Lernen, Künstliche Intelligenz).
The Fraunhofer Institute Center Schloss Birlinghoven
at Sankt Augustin is one of the largest extra-university
research centers for informatics and applied
mathematics in Germany. The scientists work together
in inter disciplinary teams, developing IT solutions that
are used in many sectors of the economy and help
to foster society as a whole. The center is home to the
Fraunhofer institutes for Algorithms and Scientific
Computing SCAI; Applied Information Technology FIT;
Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems IAIS as
well as a branch office of Fraun hofer SIT (headquartered
in Darmstadt).
The excellent research at the Fraunhofer Institute Center
Schloss Bir linghoven also helps regional companies for
whose problems the researchers develop innovative
bespoke solutions. Current research topics include
user-friendly, secure systems, optimization, numerical
simulation, high-per formance computing, life science
infor matics, Industry 4.0, Internet of Things, as well as
access to, analysis and utilization of large volumes of data
(Big Data, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence).
