To illustrate, we wish to calculate the distance between the concepts of „MySQL” and
„C++”. The closest common parent is „IT”, and thus the calculation is:
dc(MySQL, C++) = dc(MySQL, IT) + dc(C++, IT)
= (1/4-1/16) + (1/4-1/16) = 0,25
Thus, the similarity between the two concepts is:
simc(MySQL, C++) = 1 – 0,25 = 0,75
The distance between two remote concepts would be:
dc(Invoicing, OracleDatabase) = (1/2-1/16) + (1/2-1/16) = 0,875
and their similarity:
