The basic check is that the shear capacity of the leg of the angle cleat<br />

(Pv) must be greater than half the reaction at the end of the beam<br />

(Fv/2)<br />

For shear the following three checks should be considered:<br />

• shear capacity of the gross section<br />

• shear capacity of the net section<br />

• block shear<br />

Shear capacity of the gross section<br />

The shear capacity of the gross section is given by the following<br />

expression:<br />

Pv = 0.6pyAv<br />

where py is the design strength of the angle<br />

Av is the shear area of the angle<br />

For an 8 mm angle<br />

py = 275 N/mm 2<br />
