ANG 5352: Peoples of Africa (3) Survey of the culture, history,<br />

and ethnographic background of the peoples of Africa. A basis for<br />

appreciation of current problems of acculturation, nationalism, and<br />

cultural survival and change among African peoples. Not open to<br />

students who have taken ANT 4352.<br />

ANG 5354: Anthropology of Modern Africa (3) Continuity and<br />

change in contemporary African societies, with special reference to<br />

cultural and ethnic factors in modern nations. Not open to students<br />

who have taken ANT 4354.<br />

ANG 5395: Visual Anthropology (3) Prereq: basic knowledge of<br />

photography, or consent of instructor. Photography and film as tools<br />

and products of social science. Ways of describing, analyzing, and<br />

presenting behavior and cultural ideas through visual means,<br />

student projects, and laboratory work with visual anthropology. Not<br />

open to students who have taken ANT 3390.<br />

ANG 5426: Kinship and Social Organization (3) Prereq: ANT<br />

2402 or 2410. Property concepts, forms, and complexes. Tribal<br />

patterns of government and social control. Not open to students<br />

who have taken ANT 4426.<br />

ANG 5464: Culture and Aging (3) Prereq: two of following: ANT<br />

2410, SYG 2000, or introductory psychology course. Cross-cultural<br />

perspectives of adult development and aging in traditional and<br />

industrial society. Comparative assessment of culturally mediated,<br />

life-cycle transformations into old age and health related and human<br />

service policy issues. Not open to students who have taken ANT<br />

4464.<br />

ANG 5467: Culture and Nutrition (3) Prereq: HUN 3221. Theory,<br />

methodology, and substantive material of nutritional anthropology.<br />

Emphasizes cross-cultural bio-behavioral patterns.<br />

ANG 5485: Research Design in Anthropology (3) Examination of<br />

empirical and logical basis of anthropological inquiry. Analysis of<br />

theory construction. Research design. Problems of data collection,<br />

processing, and evaluation.<br />

ANG 5486: Computing for Anthropologists (3) Prereq: ANG<br />

5485 or consent of instructor. Practical introduction to the<br />

computer. Collecting, organizing, processing, and interpreting<br />

numerical data on a microcomputer. Data sets used correspond to<br />

participants' subfields.<br />

ANG 5522: Human Rights Missions in Forensic<br />

Anthropology(3) Preparation for fieldwork in forensic investigation<br />

of human rights abuses and war crimes. Topics include review of<br />

current targeted ethnic conflicts, logistics of fieldwork, consulting<br />

with human rights groups, and scientific procedure.<br />

ANG 5523: International Forensic Fieldwork in Human<br />

Rights(3-6) Fieldwork in forensic investigation of human rights<br />

abuses, ethnic cleansing, and war crimes. Excavation of mass<br />

gravesites, lab work in human identification and trauma analysis,<br />

and logistical support for team members.<br />

ANG 5525: Human Osteology and Osteometry (3) Prereq: ANT<br />

3514 and consent of instructor. Human skeletal identification for the<br />

physical anthropologist and archeologist. Techniques for estimating
