Specialization may be in such areas as construction<br />

management, sustainable construction, information systems,<br />

construction safety, and construction law. Requirements for the<br />

M.B.C., M.S.B.C., M.I.C.M., and Ph.D. degrees are given in the<br />

General Information section of this catalog.<br />

Master of Building Construction (M.B.C.) or Master of Science<br />

in Building Construction (M.S.B.C.): To be eligible for admission<br />

to the M.B.C. or M.S.B.C. programs, a student must hold a 4-year<br />

undergraduate degree in building construction or its equivalent in<br />

related fields. "Equivalent in related fields" should include studies in<br />

construction materials and methods, structures, and management.<br />

Students with deficiencies in these related fields may need longer<br />

residence for the master's degree, as they will be required to take<br />

specified basic courses to provide a foundation for advanced<br />

courses. There is no foreign language requirement.<br />

No more than 3 credits of BCN 6971 may be used to satisfy the<br />

credit requirements for the M.S.B.C. degree without written<br />

permission of the Director of <strong>Graduate</strong> and Distance Education<br />

Programs.<br />

Master of International Construction Management (M.I.C.M.):<br />

This program prepares students to assume upper-level management<br />

responsibilities in a multinational company. To be eligible for<br />

admission to the M.I.C.M. program, a student must have:<br />

--A 4-year undergraduate degree<br />

--At least 5 years of meaningful, supervisory-level construction<br />

management experience<br />

--Acceptable GRE scores (verbal, quantitative, and analytical<br />

writing)<br />

--A grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale<br />

--Employer sponsorship<br />

--International students must submit an acceptable score on one of<br />

the following: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language:<br />

computer=213, paper=550, web=80), IELTS (International English<br />

Language Testing System: 6), MELAB (Michigan English Language<br />

Assessment Battery: 77), or successful completion of the <strong>UF</strong> English<br />

Language Institute program.<br />

No more 3 credits of ICM 6934 may be used to satisfy the credit<br />

requirements for the M.I.C.M. without written permission of the<br />

Director. All candidates are required to take ICM 6930. In addition<br />

to these 6 research-oriented graduate credit hours, the student<br />

selects one or two areas of emphasis and then takes the rest of the<br />

required 33 credit hours from the remaining courses and special<br />

electives. All candidates are required to pass a comprehensive oral<br />

and/or written examination at the completion of the course work<br />

and their master's research report/project.
