consent of instructor. Using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, as<br />

a model eukaryotic cell to study the biological processes common to<br />

all eukaryotic organisms.<br />

consent of instructor. Theoretical framework for understanding the<br />

fundamentals of mouse genetics and use of the mouse model to<br />

study human disease. Advanced technical tools used for research<br />

and their application to novel problems.<br />

GMS 6012: Human Genetics (1; max: 3) Prereq: GMS 6001 or<br />

consent of instructor. Theoretical framework for understanding the<br />

fundamentals of human genetics. Advanced technical tools used for<br />

research.<br />

GMS 6013: Developmental Genetics (1; max: 3) Prereq: GMS<br />

6001 or consent of instructor. Theoretical framework for<br />

understanding the fundamentals of developmental genetics.<br />

Advantages and limitations of several model systems and their<br />

application to the study of development.<br />

GMS 6014: Applications of Bioinformatics to Genetics (1)<br />

Prereq: GMS 6001; consent of instructor. Storage, retrieval, and<br />

analysis of information related to genetics.<br />

GMS 6015: Human Genetics II (1) Prereq: GMS 6012; consent of<br />

instructor. Theoretical framework, emphasizing functional genomics<br />

and bioinformatics. Advanced technical tools used for research and<br />

development in these areas.<br />

GMS 6034: Advanced Virology I: Genetics and RNA (1) Prereq:<br />

consent of instructor. Theoretical framework for understanding the<br />

fundamental concepts of viral genetics. Methods of analysis used to<br />

elucidate the mechanisms of virus reproduction.<br />

GMS 6035: Advanced Virology II: RNA Viruses (1) Prereq:<br />

consent of instructor. Molecular biology and genetics of virology,<br />

focusing on the molecular biology of RNA viruses.<br />

GMS 6036: Molecular Virology III: DNA Viruses (1) Prereq:<br />

consent of instructor. Molecular biology and genetics of virology,<br />

focusing on replication and pathogenesis of DNA viruses.<br />

GMS 6038: Bacterial Genetics and Physiology (1) Prereq: GMS<br />

6006 or consent of instructor. Theoretical framework for<br />

understanding fundamental concepts.<br />

GMS 6039: Bacterial Pathogenesis (1) Prereq: consent of<br />

instructor. Survey of medical microbiology, focusing on the genetics<br />

and physiology of bacteria, their use as research tools, and the role<br />

of bacteria in causing disease.
