Focuses on a critical assessment of current preservation practices<br />

and how they can be applied to a sustainable future. Historic<br />

preservation of existing buildings and landscapes embodies the<br />

concept of sustainable architecture and landscape architecture.<br />

DCP 6710: History and Theory of Historic Preservation(3)<br />

National, state, and local historic preservation policies and programs<br />

are explored. Theoretical concepts that shape the way we view,<br />

protect, and preserve historic interiors, structures, sites, districts,<br />

and landscapes.<br />

DCP 6711: History of the Built Environment for Preservation<br />

Practice (3 ) Historical developments in American cultural heritage<br />

through the study of buildings, sites, and figures.<br />

DCP 6712: Preservation Technology: Conserving Modern<br />

Buildings (3 ) Principles and practices of physical conservation of<br />

culturally significant structures and sites of the Post World War II<br />

contemporary advocacy, planning, and technology.<br />

DCP 6714: Built Heritage Resources: Research,<br />

Documentation, And Conservation(3) Examines the principles<br />

and practices guiding the preservation of built heritage resources at<br />

three different scales: cultural and urban landscapes and building<br />

ensembles; architecture; and materials and finishes.<br />
