interviewing for documentary, basic tools of documentary writing,<br />

and law and ethics in documentary.<br />

FIL 6317: Producing and Writing the Documentary (3)<br />

Fundamentals of producing, directing, and writing; and the business<br />

and aesthetic dimensions of documentary.<br />

FIL 6335: Business of Documentary (1) Nonproduction aspects<br />

of documentary: fund raising, promotion, distribution, and film<br />

festivals.<br />

FIL 6340: Issues and Problems in Documentary (3) Ethical and<br />

documentary. Components include the idea, funding, planning<br />

production, and producing the preview tape, and writing and<br />

presenting a proposal.<br />

FIL 6366: Documentary Procedures II (3) Theoretical, aesthetic,<br />

and technical principles of nonlinear editing for documentary.<br />

FIL 6377: Documentary Field Production (3) Basics of<br />

producing, shooting, lighting, sound gathering, and editing.<br />

Technical and creative aspects.<br />

FIL 6378: Documentary Research Methods (3) Research process<br />

preceding the production of television documentary and the skills<br />

needed to construct an effective research strategy.<br />

FIL 6380: Advanced Post-Production Techniques (2) Advanced<br />

technical, theoretical, and aesthetic principles of post-production<br />

process used in editing television documentaries. Emphasizes<br />

developing continuity, building sequences, refining dramatic<br />

structure, narrators, and special effects.<br />

JOU 5007: History of Journalism (3) Origin, development, and<br />

potentiality of print and broadcast media. Evolution of standards,<br />

policies, methods, and controls.<br />

JOU 5705: Issues and the Press (3) Influence of the press in<br />

defining and shaping public concern with major social issues.<br />
