HSA 5174: Fundamentals of Health Care Finance (3) Prereq:<br />

consent of instructor. Introduction to basic theory and principles of<br />

finance as applied to the health care industry. Financial statements,<br />

cost measurement, budgeting, and capital investment decisions.<br />

HSA 6119: Introduction to Management of Health Services<br />

Organizations (3) Prereq: consent of instructor. Organizational<br />

principles and practices as applied to management. Organizational<br />

theory, managerial role, managing groups, work design, and<br />

organization design.<br />

HSA 6152: Overview of U.S. Health Policy (3) Prereq: consent of<br />

instructor. Survey and critical analysis of federal and state health<br />

policy processes and outcomes as they relate to the effectiveness<br />

and efficiency of health services in the U.S. and selected countries.<br />

PHC 6104: Evidence-Based Management of Public Health<br />

Programs (3) Prereq: PHC 6102 or equivalent. Practical guidance<br />

on how to choose, administer, and evaluate evidence-based<br />

programs and policies in public health settings.<br />

PHC 6937: Special Topics in Public Health(1-6; max: 12)<br />

Public Health Practice<br />

Master of Public Health degree, concentration in public health<br />

practice: This concentration provides the opportunity to develop<br />

breadth in public health by taking coursework in two, three, or four<br />

of the core public health concentrations. Such breadth is often<br />

required of professionals who assume positions of leadership in<br />

public health. It is available to students in joint and concurrent<br />

degree programs, medical and other health scientists, and working<br />

professionals. Public Health Practice is the only M.P.H. concentration<br />

available online.<br />

The campus curriculum for this concentration follows the same<br />

model as the other concentrations. Students pursuing public health<br />

practice begin their programs with the 5 core courses required of all<br />

MPH students. Instead of a specified set of concentration core<br />

courses, however, these students may choose 2 or more courses<br />

from advanced course options in two to four of the other<br />

concentrations. Students complete their degree with a 5 to 8 credit
