Biostatistics I Provides background to apply and appropriately<br />

interpret statistical applications in the medical and health related<br />

fields, and to formulate clinical and basic science research questions<br />

in statistical terms.<br />

GMS 6863: Analysis and Study Design for High Dimension, Low<br />

Sample Size Data (3) Prereq: consent of instructor. Rotating topics<br />

include current statistical methods for the study, design and<br />

analysis of high dimension, and low sample size data. Emphasizes<br />

the importance of scientific thinking and analysis validity. S/U.<br />

selects a state or federal health agency or research project in<br />

GMS 6884: Research in Epidemiology and Health Policy (2)<br />

Prereq: GMS 6800, consent of instructor. Individual, approved<br />

research topic or project in epidemiology and health policy.<br />

GMS 6892: Seminar I: Epidemiology Past, Present, and Future<br />

(3; max: 6) Prereq: consent of instructor. Historical development,<br />

philosophy, culture, and current state of epidemiological practice<br />

and science.<br />

GMS 6893: Clinical and Translational Science Seminar Series<br />

(2; max: 6) Prereq: consent of instructor. Researchers discuss<br />

clinical, laboratory, epidemiologic, and economic aspects of a given<br />

topic; also, intervention strategies and community outreach<br />

activities. Exposure to faculty who may be available for Clinical<br />

Preceptorship assignments. Topics rotate every 2 weeks.<br />

Prereq: consent of instructor. Measurement methods currently used<br />

in medical research and clinical settings.<br />

GMS 6xxxP: Methods for Evaluating Health Care Outcomes and<br />

Costs: Module 3 (1; max: 6) Prereq: background in basic<br />

statistics, familiarity with concepts covered by this course, and<br />

consent of instructor. Fundamental econometric methods for<br />

evaluating health care outcomes and cost.<br />
