The department offers the following degrees and programs: the<br />

Doctor of Philosophy in classical studies; the Master of Arts degree<br />

in classical studies or Latin; the Master of Latin degree, and the<br />

Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Latin. Requirements for these<br />

degrees are given in the General Instructions section of this catalog.<br />

Within the Ph.D. program are three tracks:<br />

--Philology (prepares students for careers in colleges and<br />

universities)<br />

--Classical civilization (available via distance course work)<br />

--Latin and Roman studies (available via distance course work).<br />

Requirements for the philology track of the doctoral degree include:<br />

--60 credit hours after the M.A. (or a total of 90 credit hours)<br />

--Five additional seminars after the M.A. in classics at the 500 level<br />

or higher<br />

--Three of the following seminars: GRE 6425, GRW 6105, LAT 6425,<br />

LNW 6105, and CLA 6805<br />

--A reading knowledge of two modern languages, one of which must
