The <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty of the Department of Physiology and<br />

Functional Genomics participates in the interdisciplinary program<br />

(IDP) in medical sciences, leading to the Doctor of Philosophy<br />

degree, with specialization in one of the six advanced concentration<br />

areas of the IDP (see Medical Sciences). Departmental areas of<br />

research associated with the IDP include topical problems in various<br />

aspects of human physiology. In addition to courses associated with<br />

the IDP, the Department of Physiology and Functional Genomics<br />

offers the courses listed below.<br />

GMS 6008: Fundamentals of Physiology and Functional<br />

Genomics (2) Prereq: GMS 6001 or consent of instructor. Designed<br />

for first-year graduate students. Fundamental physiological<br />

concepts. Emphasizes the impact of functional genomics technology<br />

on contemporary physiology.<br />

GMS 6400C: Principles of Physiology (6) Prereq: consent of<br />

instructor. Physiology of mammalian organ systems, with special<br />

reference to the human.<br />

GMS 6403: Advanced Endocrinology (4) Prereq: GMS 6400C,<br />

PHA 3500, 3501 or equivalent, consent of instructor. Readings<br />

discussions, and lectures on recent advances in endocrinology.<br />

GMS 6405: Fundamentals of Endocrine Physiology (1) Prereq:<br />

GMS 6001 or consent of instructor. For 1st- and 2nd-year graduate<br />

students. Human body endocrine system physiology.
