Doctor of Philosophy: Admission requirements for the Ph.D.<br />

include<br />

--A minimum grade point average of 3.2<br />

--A minimum GMAT score of 650, or GRE scores acceptable to the<br />

program<br />

--For nonnative speakers of English, submit an acceptable score on<br />

one of the following: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language:<br />

computer=213, paper=550, web=80), IELTS (International English<br />

Language Testing System: 6), MELAB (Michigan English Language<br />

Assessment Battery: 77), or successful completion of the <strong>UF</strong> English<br />

Language Institute program.<br />

Students come from a variety of backgrounds, with the most<br />

common being engineering computer sciences, mathematics,<br />

business, and statistics. Students admitted for the Ph.D. choose to<br />

specialize either in information systems/information technology or in<br />

operations management. The course schedule taken by each student<br />

is always personalized to fit the background of the student and is<br />

developed in consultation with the Ph.D. program coordinator and/or<br />

chair of the dissertation committee. A typical program of study,<br />

assuming that the student has the required background in business,<br />

calculus, and Java programming is as follows. Common<br />

methodological and substantive courses (regardless of<br />

specialization) are taken by most students:<br />

--COT 5405: Analysis of Algorithms<br />

--ECO 7404: Game Theory for Economics<br />

--ECO 7408: Mathematical Methods and Applications to Economics<br />

--ECO 7115: Microeconomic Theory<br />

--ESI 6417: Linear Programming and Network Optimization<br />

--ESI 6546: Stochastic Systems Analysis<br />

--ESI 6418: Linear Programming Extensions and Applications<br />

--ISM 6257: Intermediate Business Programming<br />

--ISM 6258: Advanced Business Programming<br />

--ISM 6259: Business Programming<br />

--MAR 7626: Multivariate Statistical Methods in Marketing<br />

--MAS 4105: Linear Algebra<br />

--MAA 5228: Modern Analysis I<br />

--STA 6326: Introduction to Theoretical Statistics I<br />

--STA 6166: Statistical Methods in Research (or equivalent).<br />

In addition to these courses, doctoral students are also required to<br />

attend doctoral seminar courses as and when they are offered,<br />

attend theISOM Workshop series, and take any additional courses in<br />

their chosen field.<br />
