Ph.D. students are required to take a preliminary examination.<br />

Requirements for the M.S., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees are given in<br />

the General Information section of this catalog.<br />

Subject to approval by the supervisory committee, graduate-level<br />

courses taken through the Departments of Environmental<br />

Engineering Sciences, Geological Sciences, and Mechanical and<br />

Aerospace Engineering are considered as major credit.<br />

For courses taken through the Department of Civil and Coastal<br />

Engineering, credit hours graded S/U will not count toward<br />

graduation except for:<br />

--6 hours of CGN or EOC 6971 for thesis students<br />

--3 hours of CGN 6974 for students working on the M.E. report<br />

--CGN or EOC 7979<br />

--CGN or EOC 7980<br />

CWR 6126: Variable-Density Groundwater Flow (3) Prereq:<br />

CWR 5125 Groundwater Flow 1 or consent of instructor. Numerical<br />

groundwater modeling, including groundwater flow, contaminant<br />

transport, and variable-density flow and transport equations and<br />

finite-difference approximations.<br />

Civil Engineering<br />

CCE 5035: Construction Planning and Scheduling (3) Prereq:<br />

CCE 4204. Planning, scheduling, organizing, and control of civil<br />

engineering projects with CPM and PERT. Application of optimization<br />

techniques.<br />

CCE 5405: Construction Equipment and Procedures (3) Prereq:<br />

CCE 4204 or consent of instructor. Design and optimization of<br />

equipment systems for heavy construction.<br />

CCE 6037: Civil Engineering Operations I (2) Prereq: graduate<br />

status. Advanced construction engineering and management<br />

procedures at the project level to support quantitative decision<br />

making.<br />

CCE 6038: Innovative Construction Techniques (2) Prereq: CCE<br />

4204 or consent of instructor. Advanced construction engineering<br />

techniques and management coordination procedures for civil<br />

engineering projects.<br />

CCE 6505: Computer Applications in Construction Engineering<br />

(3) Prereq: CGS 2425, CCE 5035, or consent of instructor.<br />

Application of computer solutions to construction engineering/civil<br />

engineering management problems; microcomputer use.<br />

CCE 6507: Computer Applications in Construction Engineering<br />

II (3) Prereq: CGS 4161, CCE 6505 or consent of instructor.<br />

Applications of advanced computer solutions to construction<br />

engineering/civil engineering management problems.
