The Department offers the Master of Science in Pharmacy and<br />

Doctor of Philosophy degrees in pharmaceutical sciences with a<br />

concentration in pharmaceutical outcomes and policy. Requirements<br />

for the M.S.P. degree are the same as for the Master of Science<br />

degree. Complete descriptions of the requirements for these degrees<br />

are provided in the General Information section of this catalog.<br />

Research in the Department emphasizes the epidemiological, sociobehavioral,<br />

administrative, legal, and economic aspects of drug<br />

therapy and pharmaceutical services, including assessment of<br />

safety, effectiveness, and efficiency aspects of patient-oriented<br />

pharmaceutical services.<br />

<strong>Graduate</strong> studies include core curricula encompassing the drug use<br />

process, statistics and research design, behavioral sciences,<br />

epidemiology, and economics. Electives and required courses draw<br />

from the resources of the entire University. They provide necessary<br />

concepts, knowledge, and skills for practical problem-solving and<br />

basic research. <strong>Graduate</strong>s are prepared for leadership positions in<br />

academia, public service, pharmaceutical industry, and practice<br />

management related to drug therapy and pharmacy practice.<br />

Applicants with backgrounds in pharmacy, nursing, other health<br />

professions, or behavioral sciences are welcomed. Admission to the
