The interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in rehabilitation science is<br />

offered through the College of Public Health and Health Professions.<br />

It is designed to prepare rehabilitation scholars. Students are given<br />

the opportunity to develop skills in teaching, research, service<br />

leadership, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Students work closely<br />

with their faculty mentor within the broad categories of Movement<br />

Science, Disability Science, and Communication and Swallowing<br />

Science. On successful completion of the program, graduates<br />

typically take positions in research universities and research centers.<br />

Requirements for the Ph.D. degree are given in the General<br />

Information section of this catalog.<br />

Admissions decisions are determined by an interdisciplinary<br />

admissions committee. The program is a minimum of 90 credit<br />

hours of study beyond the bachelor's degree. The curriculum<br />

includes 25 graduate credits in core rehabilitation courses<br />

(rehabilitation science theory, research, and teaching) required of all<br />

students; 50 credits in specialty areas; and 15 credits of<br />

dissertation research. The 50 credits of specialty courses includes 18<br />

credits from one (or a combination) of the three major emphases in<br />

rehabilitation mentioned above. The remaining 32 credit hours may<br />

be electives, or 30 credits may be transferred in from a master's<br />

degree program (with the approval of the supervisory committee.<br />
