ENV 6216: Radioactive Wastes (3) Source, treatment, and<br />

disposal. Emphasizes preventing environmental contamination.<br />

ENV 6301: Advanced Solid Waste Containment Design (3)<br />

Current practice in designing solid and hazardous waste landfills,<br />

waste piles, monofills, and surface impoundments. Regulations,<br />

siting, sizing, liners, leachate and gas management, operations,<br />

closure, and post-closure.<br />

ENV 6435C: Advanced Water Treatment Process Design (4)<br />

Prereq: CHM 2046, EES 4201 or 6208, ENV 4514C. Designing water<br />

treatment processes including air stripping disinfection, activated<br />

carbon adsorption, ion exchange, membrane processes, and<br />

ozonation. Predesigning laboratory studies to select appropriate<br />

process parameters.<br />

ENV 6437: Advanced Wastewater System Design (3) Prereq:<br />

ENV 4514C or equivalent. Coreq: ENV 4561 or equivalent. Layout<br />

and design of sanitary sewage systems, pumping stations, force<br />

mains, wastewater treatment plants, and methods of effluent<br />

disposal. Emphasizes preparing design drawings and estimating<br />

costs.<br />

ENV 6438: Advanced Potable Water Systems Design (3)<br />

Prereq: EES 4201 or 6208, and ENV 4514C. Design of water<br />

treatment operations, including coagulation, flocculation, mixing,<br />

sedimentation, filtration, softening, corrosion control, and sludge<br />

management. Design costs.<br />

ENV 6441: Water Resources Planning and Management (3)<br />

Principles and practice of water resource planning and management.<br />

Protocols used at local, state, federal, regional, and international<br />

levels. Plan formulation, evaluation, and implementation.<br />

Stakeholder involvement in planning processes. Analytical tools.<br />

Case studies.<br />

ENV 6508: Wetland Hydrology (3) Prereq: basic fluid flow course<br />

or consent of instructor. Water flow and chemical transport in<br />

wetlands. Surface water and ground water interaction in wetlands.<br />

Constructed wetlands for water treatment.<br />

ENV 6510: Groundwater Restoration (3) Designing water<br />

treatment systems using aeration, activated carbon, reverse<br />

osmosis, and in situ bioremediation to restore contaminated<br />

groundwater.<br />

ENV 6511: Biological Wastewater Treatment (3) Theory and<br />

current research associated with biological treatment processes.<br />

ENV 6556: Advanced Waste Treatment Operations (3) Prereq:<br />

ENV 5555, 6511. Biological, physical, and chemical processes used<br />

in the advanced treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater.<br />

Reuse application and guidelines.<br />
