University of Florida <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

<strong>Graduate</strong>s are eligible for Florida licensure and national certification. To be<br />

considered for the M.S.N. program, students must meet the following minimum<br />

requirements:<br />

--Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with an upper-division grade point average<br />

of 3.0 or higher from a nationally accredited program<br />

--A minimum score of 500 on each of the verbal and quantitative sections of the<br />

<strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examination (GRE)<br />

--Completion of the GRE analytical section<br />

--Eligibility for licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Florida<br />

Doctor of Nursing Practice: The College of Nursing offers a program leading to<br />

the degree of Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.). The program prepares advanced<br />

practice nurses with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed in today's complex<br />

health care environment and produces advanced practice nurses with educational<br />

background comparable to health care practitioners in other fields.<br />

Admission: To be considered for the D.N.P. program, students must meet the<br />

following minimum requirements:<br />

-- A bachelor of science in nursing degree for the BSN/DNP program or a master's<br />

degree in nursing for the post master’s DNP program<br />

-- A GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.<br />

-- A score of 500 or higher on each of the verbal and quantitative sections of the<br />

<strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examination (GRE).<br />

-- Completion of the GRE analytical section.<br />

-- Current licensure (or eligibility) in the state of Florida<br />

Program of study: The D.N.P. program consists of 93 credits that can be<br />

completed in 8 semesters of full-time study or 14 semesters of part-time study.<br />

Students who already have an M.S.N. degree are able to satisfy the requirements<br />

of the D.N.P. curriculum upon completion of 48 credits.<br />

Ph.D. in Nursing Sciences: The College's PhD program prepares scientists,<br />

scholars, advanced practitioners, and leaders in nursing. Comprehensive research<br />

and practice preparation is achieved by pairing students with faculty. Students<br />

have access to an array of faculty members for interdisciplinary study, clinical<br />

practice, and research. Individually directed dissertation research is a major aspect<br />

of the Ph.D. program. Research in the College includes aging and health, women's<br />

health, bio-behavioral interventions, and health policy.<br />
