GMS 6001 or consent of coordinator. Overview of the principles<br />

governing cellular and molecular signaling in the nervous system.<br />

Introduction to novel experimental approaches and non-mammalian<br />

preparations used to explore these principles.<br />

GMS 6791: Visual Neuroscience Journal Club (1; max: 2)<br />

Prereq: 1st-year IDP core course; or consent of instructor.<br />

Presentation and discussion of cutting-edge research papers. S/U.<br />

GMS 6xxxY: Biological Imaging Techniques (1) Prereq: GMS<br />

6001 or consent of instructor. Basic principles and advanced<br />

applications of biological imaging, with a focus on optical methods<br />

and visualization techniques.<br />

GMS 7794: Neuroscience Seminar (1; max: 12) Research<br />

seminars given by local, national, and occasionally international<br />

speakers. S/U.<br />

GMS 7795: Special Topics in Neuroscience (1-4; max: 12)<br />

Specialized subjects in the neurosciences and allied disciplines.<br />

Current topics include biological imaging techniques, fundamentals<br />

of computational neuroscience, graduate research seminar series,<br />

write clubs, scientific communication workshop (Whitney Lab), and<br />

electrophysiological journal club (Whitney Lab).<br />
