University of Florida <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong><br />

Progression in the program depends on the student's ability to meet academic<br />

standards and clinical competencies as defined by College policy. To be considered<br />

for admission to the Ph.D. program, students must meet the following minimum<br />

requirements:<br />

--A master's degree in nursing or other health-related field and a GPA of at least<br />

3.0 on a 4.0 scale<br />

--A minimum score of 500 on each of the verbal and quantitative sections of the<br />

<strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examination (GRE)<br />

--Completion of the GRE analytical section<br />

--Eligibility for licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Florida<br />

A personal interview is preferred to establish a <strong>Graduate</strong> Faculty mentor who will<br />

work with the student to individualize the academic program and to structure the<br />

student's research or practice focus.<br />

NGR 5934: Cultural Influences on Health Care (2)<br />

NGR 6002C: Advanced Health Assessment (4) Prereq or coreq: NGR 6140.<br />

Required core course. Diverse clients across the life span. Emphasizes data<br />

analysis and diagnostic reasoning.<br />

NGR 6005: Principles of Clinical Outcomes Management II (2) Prereq: NGR<br />

6081, 6727, 6803. Coreq: NGR 6726, 6771. Health care management using the<br />

principles of evidence-based practice.<br />

NGR 6020C: Advanced Neonatal Health Assessment and Diagnostic<br />

Reasoning (4) Prereq: NGR 6320C, 6140. Symptom/health problem assessment in<br />

the neonate. Interpretation of screening and diagnostic tests to formulate a<br />

differential diagnosis.<br />

NGR 6052C: Adult Nursing: Diagnostics and Procedures (1) Prereq: NGR<br />

6002C, 6101, 6140, 6636. Prereq or coreq: NGR 6241, 6241L or 6245L, 6192,<br />

6803. Selected advanced practice nursing interventions used in caring for acutely ill<br />

adults.<br />

NGR 6053C: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Diagnostics and Procedures for<br />

the Critically Ill (1) Prereq: NGR 6002C, 6101, 6140, 6636. Prereq or coreq: NGR<br />

6052C, 6241, 6241L or 6245L, 6192, 6803. Necessary nursing skills in caring for<br />

the critically ill in acute-care settings.<br />

NGR 6081: Principles of Clinical Outcomes Management I (3) Prereq: NGR<br />

6002C, 6101, 6130, 6636, 67770. Coreq: NGR 6193, 6727. Health care<br />

management of client aggregates.<br />

NGR 6101: Theory and Research for Nursing (3) Critical examination of theory<br />

and research from nursing and related fields. Emphasis on relationships among<br />

theory, research, and practice.<br />

NGR 6130: Ethical Perspectives in Nursing (2) Prereq: NGR 6101. Required<br />

core course. Analysis of theories of value acquisition, models of ethical decision<br />

making, and critical ethical incidents in nursing practice and research.<br />

NGR 6140: Physiology and Pathophysiology for Advanced Nursing Practice<br />

(4) Required core course. Human physiology, including normal changes throughout<br />

the life span, pathophysiology, and their implications for nursing.<br />
